Why Patriotism Is Important in Journalism——A Study on South Korea's Moral Teaching in Public Domains

韩国新闻业存在着强烈的爱国主义特质,被称做训民启蒙与训民新闻业。它根植于韩国的历史文化之中,与西方近代传统,特别是康德以降的启蒙思想与哈贝马斯式的公共领域描述有着很大不同。训民新闻业与现代韩国的国家发展紧密相连,反映出韩国社会转型中民主化的成就与问题。政治与经济权势阶层牢固掌握了新闻话语权,直到最近几年才有所改善。韩国新闻业应走出狭隘的爱国主义观和受政治事务束缚的状态,转向更宽泛的社会与文化领域的新闻生产。

Patriotism is the main feature of Korean journalism,which explains why it is known as journalism of enlightenment or journalism of moral teaching.It is deeply rooted in the history of Korean culture,different either from Kant's enlightenment or Habermas' public domain.Journalism of moral teaching is closely linked with national development.It reflects the achievements and problems of democratization in social transformation.It was not until recently that the control of the political and economic power sectors over press had been released a little bit.Korean journalism should get rid of ethnocentric ideology and political bondage,turning to a broader field of social and cultural news production.
