摘要
常见的用于超长距离数据传输或光传导的光纤一般由玻璃或PMMA制成,具有光散射率低、衰减率低等极好的光学特性。由于生产过程和标准材料等成本因素,这些纤维定价高,因而不能成为新型照明设施或短距离光信号传输的经济型解决方案。考虑到经济型半透明纤维在这些应用方向的需求,ITA研发出一些使用改进型熔融纺丝工艺加工成型的通用高分子基纤维,并着眼于通用高分子基纤维光学特性,探究其成为PMMA纤维替代材料的潜力。
Common optical fibers for data transmission or conduction of light over long distances are made of glass or PMMA and have excellent optical properties like low dispersion and attenuation. With regard to the manufacturing process and the standard materials,these fibers are high priced and not a cost efficient solution for innovative illumination concepts and light transmission over short distances. Considering the needs for cost efficient translucent fibers for these applications,several commodity polymer based monofilaments are manufactured using a modified melt spinning process,which has been developed at the ITA. The optical properties of the commodity polymer based fibers and their potential to be an alternative to PMMA fibers were discussed.
