A challenging development for the manufacturing of usable medical textile materials lies in the fabrication of filament yarns with a defined shape,unidirectional alignment and good textile physical characteristics of pure chitosan. At the Institute of Textile Machinery and High Performance Material Technology( ITM),a novel method has been developed that allows the production of chitosan yarns by means of the solvent wet spinning technology,whose properties allow for their processing in textiles as well as in biomedical applications.
