The Binding Effect of Cultural Stereotype in Cross-cultural Communication

跨文化交际是当前我国值得重视的问题,而文化定式问题又是其中至关重要的问题。定式的产生与认知原型有着不解之缘。定式会引起强烈的自我中心论,导致文化封闭观;引起文化容纳缺失,导致文化吸收弱化;对外族文化以偏概全,引发交际失误和冲突。因此,必须对文化定式拥有正确的意识和认识:要摆脱文化定式的束缚,大胆与世界其他文化交融;要容纳其他文化,重视学习其他文化的长处;要避免文化的冲突,形成文化的和谐相处。

Cross- cultural communication is now emerging as an important issue in China,in which cultural stereotype is catching more and more attention. Its existence is inseparable to cognitive prototype. It may give rise to strong sense of ego- centrism,and bring about the view of cultural isolation; it may also give rise to the blank of cultural tolerance,and lead to the deficiency of cultural assimilation; it may even give rise to the overgeneralization to the foreign culture,and cause miscommunication or conflict in cross- cultural communication. Therefore,it is vital to have a right awareness and understanding to cultural stereotype: the binding of cultural stereotype must be unleashed for the close cultural exchange with foreign cultures; the tolerance to other cultures must be enhanced for the learning of the advantages of foreign cultures; the conflict with foreign cultures must be avoided for an coexistence with foreign cultures in harmony.
