Abstract The threat of Islam' is a miss-leading piece of public opinion spread by the West, with the purpose to throw into 'the other disreputable register' all the forces in the Islam world that ignore power politics of the West, so that they could be guarded against and contained. But over the last decade, Islamic fundementalism has indeed become one of the active elements influencing the international politics. Its main manifestations are as follows:One, in respect of ideology, reject the Western political system, but advocate tile theory of Allah's sovereignty, the theory of the Prophet's authority, the theory of exercising sovereignty on Allah-s behalf and the theory of political consultations, in an attempt to re-establish a sort of theocratic government which regards religious power as supreme and which integrate politics with religion;Two, in respect of traditonal culture, reject the Western view of value, believe that modernization is not tantamount to Westernization or secularization, and advocate the realization of modernization on the basis of development of the Islamic cultural tradition;Three, in respect of social community, organize political oppositions.The rise of Islam political oppositions have their deep roots in history, theory and actual conditions, and have become the most attractive phenomena in the political life of Islam countries.
