Abstract Under the present situation when multi-polarization of the world accelerates,the US believes that in order to maintain its world hegemony, it is crucial to find ways to keep its dominant position both in Europe and in Asia. The Middle East is a vital strategic channel between Europe and Asia, and moreover, West Europe and Japan depend on the oil supply from the Gulf and North Africa even more than the US, and the developing countries in Asia will also increasingly rely on the Gulf for its oil supply in future. By controlling the Middle East and the Gulf,the US intends to pose restrictions on its allies in West Europe and Japan as well as on the developing countries in Asia. Thus, in the US global strategy of seeking to continue to dominate the world in the coming 21st century, to control the Middle East and Gulf has become a crucial move. However, in seeking exclusive domination over the Middle East, the US is being challenged by the European Union,Japan and Russia; the US policy towards the Middle East is also serving to deepen the contradictions between it and the Middle East countries, it has also aroused anti-US sentiments among the broad strata in the region, promoting the growth of the Islam radical forces; lastly, the US Middle East policy is being contained by domestic factors in the US, with its weakness of its ability being not equal to its ambition ever more apparent.
