Abstract Africa's economic integration originated in 1960s has been going oil for over 30 years. But up to the present, integrative bodies of Africa's various sub-regions have generally remained at the initial stage of market integration as the tariff preferential zones. Thus, the integration has progressed rather slowly with no great results as yet. The slow progress has been caused by various factors such as similar economic structure, lack of capital and technology, backward infrastructure and poor communications, complicated currency systems and inconvenient clearing, inadequate information, distorted price systems and imbalanced economic development. Besides, the long stagnation of Africa's economy, the great number of economic cooperative organizations as well as the non-economic factors such as unstable political situation, ethnic contradictions and border disputes are also causes hindering the process of Africa's economic integration.
