Abstract Developments of African situation in 1995 were characterized by both gratifying positive changes and many puzzles and worries as well.This mixed state of both joy and worriness constitutes the special feature of present-day African situation.Totally speaking, most of the African countries have tided themselves over the hardest time,'hot spots'have either disappeared or lowered the temperature,with political situation moving towards stability; the econ omy has started to recover or develop vigourously,so the trend is inspiring and life is gradually turning for the better.To seek peace,development and cooperation has become the mainstream of the development of situation in Africa today.But the continent is still confronted with many problems,especially the problem of how to get rid of poverty and maintain Iong-term order and stability.Up till now,tribal contradictions and war shadows are still upsetting many African countries;lack of capital, heavy external debt,swell of population and increase of refugees,all these have added burden to Africa.The road to stability and vigorous development for Africa is still beset with hardships,the task being lofty but the way very long.
