Caudillo and Caudillismo are an important topic in the studies of Latin American history.This article points out that Caudillos were mainly those warlords of the period from the early 19th century to the 1870s who represented the interests of the landed class in Latin American countries.Caudillos were all dictators,but dictators were not necessarily Caudillos,and they were different.There were also essential differences between Caudillos and the revolutionary leaders or reformers.Caudillos were the old forces which were then on the verge of extinction and Caudillismo was the worst political system in Latin American societies.Thusthe role of Caudillos and Caudillismo in history was no doubt negative. But the deeds of comeCaudillos should not be obliterated.
