伴随着我国华侨在东南亚地区的开拓和发展历史的谱写和延续,包括华文戏曲和话剧、歌剧等的华文戏剧,也在当地播种和衍生、发展。东南亚华文戏剧,是在我国传统文化和“五·四”新文化运动的影响下形成和发展起来的,因此,它与我国的戏剧文化有密切的历史渊源关系,同时,它又是在东南地区的自然和社会环境中成长壮大的,因此又具有当地社会的本土特征。其发展前景是多样化而光明的。
