Studing the dryland agriculture ( of broomcorn and millet),this article argues that the origin of Chi-na's ancient civilization is marked with the formation of systems of surname, clan, family and household and with the emergence of clan- state, In ancient China, the core of the social structure is the clan;the state's form, the clan- state ;and the ruler, head of the clan at different levels. The property form is the clan of the household inclusive of numerous slaves. It is another kind of developed slave - owning system.
