AbstractGetulio Dorneles Vargars(1883-1954)is the most controversial figure in the history ofBrazil.This article makes an overall examination of the reforms during the peried of Vargars'government and points out that Vargars established new political and economic models and start-ed to carry out an independent diplomatic policy. These reforms promoted Brazilian political sta-bility,economic take-off and national independence.Thus it can be argued that Vargars indeedmade prominent contribution to the development both of Brazil and the whole Latin America.
