Abstract Historically speaking,Sino─U.S.cultural exchanges between 1972 and 1992 were unprece-dented in its size,depth and width in the history of Sino─Western cultural exchanges. The non─official exchanges (1972─l978)had played an important role in clearing away the obstacles forthe normolization of the relations between the two nations. Cultural exchanges sometimes func-tion as lubricaton oil in eliminating the contradictions among nations with diplomatic relations.The past 20 Years' cuItural exchanges have benefited both China and the United States in different aspects.
