Sima Qian stated that 'without army a country will not be strong; without morality a country will not be prosperous.' This viewpoint drew a line between the concepts of 'powerful country' and 'prosperous country' and pointed out the important yet different roles 'army' and 'morality' play in the rise and development of a county. Military strength is one of the important signs and elements of a powerful nation as well as the vital reason and driving force for a country to become powerful and prosperous. US hegemony and the reasons for it can be examined from these perspectives:military strength,science and technology,economy,system and thought. Military strength is an important window for understanding US as a superpower as well as the real reasons behind that. However,the most deep-rooted and most important reasons are concepts and thoughts in American society.
