The tragedy of Thérèse Desqueyroux is the representative of Mauriac's novels.Three tragic factors of the character are analyzed: the cage caused by the distorted human relationships,the contradictions between pain and awareness and the impossibility of repentance.It also reveals the tragic situation of modern people by proving the inevitability of Thérèse's tragedy.
