Hypoxia can increase the expression of vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF),which induces intraocular neovascularization.Under hypoxic condition,VEGF is triggered by hypoxia-inducible factor 1(HIF-1).The function,signal transduction pathway of HIF-1,the effects of HIF-1 expression on VEGF and intraocular neovascularization,etc,are reviewed.
