API Standard 618 and API Specification 11P are the standards formulated by American Petroleum Institute for reciprocal compressor.With the example of a compressor unit at the gas treatment plant of CNOOC SES project,this paper compares the similarity and difference between these two standards,analyses their applicable scopes,emphasis issues and discrepancy of some detailed contents,and indicates that these standards should be applied according to concrete conditions of different projects in the reciprocal compressor unit design.
