高等教育自学考试(以下简称"自考")是别于"学校教育"的另一种形式,他们同属于中国高等教育制度。自考继承了中国古代教育制度的优秀传统,是有中国特色的高等教育形式。自考是穷国办大教育的伟大创举,是社会主义初级阶段发展高等教育不可缺少的形式。应遵循邓小平关于"办学校"与"自学"两种办法的思想,使自考进一步完善起来。

The Self-taught higher education examinations is another form different from school education, while both of them belong to the system of China's higher education. The Self-taught higher education examinations carries forward the good tradition of educational system in ancient China and is one form of higher education with Chinese characteristics. It is a great beginning for China to develop education in the poverty-striken period, and is an indispensable form to develop higher education at the primary stage of socialism. We should adhere to Deng Xiaoping's thought about the two ways of running schools and self-taught and improve it gradually.
