The relations between developing advanced culture and cultivating national spirit

全面建设小康社会不仅要有高度发达的经济,而且要有中国特色的社会主义先进文化与之相适应。江泽民同志在十六大报告中指出:"全面建设小康社会,必须大力发展社会主义文化,建设社会主义精神文明"。并且提出先进文化建设要坚持弘扬和培育民族精神。虽然先进文化的实质就是民族精神,但发展先进文化并不是对民族精神的简单继承与发展,更要创新。

In order to construct well - off society in all - round way we should have not only the developed economy but also the advanced culture correspondly. Comrade Jiang Zenin pointed out that constructing well - off society must develop vigorously the socialist culture and establish socialist spiritual civilization. We should insisit on cultivating national spirit while constructing advanced culture. The essence of advanced cuture is national spirit, but developing advanced culture is not the simple succession to the national spirit,it also needs innovation.
