Still having unfinished works, Xiong Bingming, the Chinese philosopher, poet and sculptor passed
away in December 14, 2002. His ashes were buried in Gretz-Armainvil-Liers, suburb of Paris. For half of the century he has been nourished in foreign culture. A Chinese soul thus developed into
a great intellectual. He passed away with the aspiration of a whole generation. What he left to us is enlightenment: communication between the eastern and the western culture could produce great art. Soon after ho was retained in Nanjing University. Xiong created a piece of sculpture on the theme of Caltle. He considered it to be his greatest and most rapidly produced work. Wu Guanzhong. an outstanding painter entitled this work 'Ruziniu', which is a metaphor lor those who devote themselves to helping the youth. Yang Zhenning, a famous scientist inscribed: 'This work indicates the self-realization of generations of Chinese intellectuals in the 20th century. ' Xiong entitled his scnipt 'Caltle of People'.
In Chinese traditional agricultural society, cattle, land and the spirit of the Chinese are tightly
connected. Although Mr. Xiong settled in Europe, his affection for his motherland was fully
expresses in the creating of this sculpture. His sculpture 'Cattle of People' was influenced by
western sculptors represented by Kimon. by Potlaire'e concept that 'spirit-existing organisation
discipline.' But it also inherited the dignified, solemn, and living artistic style in ancient China.
His 'Chinese People's Caltle' presents a kind of tenacious spirit.
