Evaluation of Treatment Strategies for Metastatic Brain Tumors

背景与目的:脑转移瘤的预后较差,但恰当的治疗对延长病人生存时间、提高生活质量是有益的。本文探讨脑转移瘤多种治疗方法中较好的治疗措施。方法:对74例脑转移瘤原发病灶、大小、数目、治疗方法及疗效进行回顾分析。结果:单发脑转移瘤行手术或立体定向放射外科治疗+局部放疗,多发脑转移瘤行立体定向放射外科治疗或手术+全脑放疗+化疗多能明显延长病人的生存时间。结论:手术和立体定向放射外科治疗各有不同的适应证,两者结合原发灶治疗的综合措施能明显延长脑转移瘤患者的生存期。

BACKGROUND & OBJECTIVE: The prognosis of metastatic brain tumors is still poor. However, appropriate treatment strategies may prolong survival time and improve the quality of life for some patients. This paper evaluated several treatment strategies for metastatic brain tumors. METHODS: The tumor size, number, characteristics of primary tumor, the treatment strategies and therapeutic effect of 74 cases were reviewed. RESULTS: The survival time was longer in the patients with single lesion treated with surgery or stereotactic radiosurgery plus local brain radiotherapy. The survival was prolonged in patients with multiple metastasis when treated with surgery or stereotactic radiosurgery, whole-brain radiotherapy and chemotherapy. CONCLUSION: Surgery or stereotactic radiosurgery has its own advantage. The combination of these two therapeutic tools with the treatment of primary tumor could obviously prolong the survival period of patients with metastatic brain tumors.
