English, as an international language, has become a dominant medium for communication worldwide. Its proficiency has become a major requirement for attaining the highest level of professional and economic success around the world. The significant development in technology has helped to establish E- learning as a powerful and superior alternative to classroom learning. Because E-learning is available anytime, anywhere, and because a multi-media environment encourages students to see, hear, and do simultaneously, E-learning, or online instruction is an especially effective platform for learning English. As Peter Drucker has stated in E-learning Putting More Now Into the Internet, 'Online continuing education is creating a new and distinct educational realm, and it is the future of education.'
英语,作为一种全球通用的语言,已经越来越显示出其霸主的地位。近来,因特网的出现为英语学习大开方便之门。中国的顺利入世和申奥的成功再次掀起了英语学习的高潮。然而,我国教育资源的困乏给英语学习带来很大障碍。由于英语学习的需求不断加大,传统的课堂教学手段已无法满足人们学习英语的需要。随着高科技的发展,方便快捷的因特网已经成为人们生活中必不可少的一部分。借助于因特网的新兴教育产业——电子学习(E-Learning),亦称在线学习(Online-Learning)成为英语学习的最佳媒介,为英语爱好者搭起一个有效的学习平台。本文通过电子学习手段同传统学习手段的比较,阐明电子学习是未来英语学习的最佳途径。
