关于梅花英文名译法的商榷

梅花的英文名字使用非常混乱,最常见的是.Japanese flowering apricot,Japanese flowering plum,Japanese apricot,Plum,Flowering plum等。这在国际交流时十分不方便,特别是我国获得梅品种国际登录权之后,梅的英文名字亟待统一。本文从梅的起源、梅的自然地理分布和有关梅文化入手探讨梅的英文译法,以得到国际同行的认可。

The usage of the English name of Prunus mume is very confused.The English common names of Prunus mume are Japanese flowering apricot,Japanese flowering plum,Japanese apricot,Plum,Flowering plum,etc.It is very inconvenient for us to communicate internationally.Especially under the circumstance that Prof.Chen Junyu* was recently appointed as ICRA(the International Cultivar Registration Authority) for Mei (Prunus mume),the standardization of the English name of Prunus mume demands prompt solution.The selection of English common name of Prunus mume was discussed in the following aspects such as the origina- tion,natural distribution,cultivation history,Mei culture,and so on.Our aim is to hope having a common recognization for an English name for Prunus mume which is correct,reasonable and not causing misunder- standing.
