Discussions on the Historical Background and the Cultural Symbol Role of the Formation of the Mei Flower and Tree Peony Culture in China

梅花与牡丹均为中国传统名花,其文化内涵之丰富,又居于名花之首。梅花、牡丹由于其生物学特性的差异,花文化形成的历史背景不同,因而具有不同的文化象征意义。但在许多群众喜闻乐见的艺术表现形式中,她们又都带有吉祥、喜庆的寓意。梅文化与牡丹文化互为补充,相得益彰,共同成为中国花文化的一大特色。

Both of Mei flower and tree peony are Chinese traditional famed flowers,their cultural connota- tions are so rich and colourful that they have been ranked first among all the famous flowers.The historical background of forming Mei flower and that of tree peony culture is different due to diversity of biology charac- teristics in them,thus they have unique cultural symbol.In artistic form loved by the masses,however,they always mean joyful and lucky.The culture of Mei flower and Heat of tree peony altogether have become impor- tant features in Chinese flower culture because the two are complementary to each other,shining more brilliant- ly together than alone.
