“天诱其衷”考源

A textual research into a Chinese phrase

“天诱其衷”一语 ,最早出自《左传》,其中“诱”与“衷”是理解难点。详考典籍 ,从文字、音韵、训诂、语境角度释义 ,“诱”有“引导”与“设置”二义 ,“衷”有“正道”义。“天诱其衷”即“上天导之以正道”,这种解译似比杨伯峻先生的“意谓天被我感动其心”

The phrase “Tian you qizhong” comes from Iuozhuan (a Chinese classic).Through textual lesearch,“ you ”means“lead”or“plan”;“ zhong ”means“right course”.So the phrase can be explained as“God leads us to the right course”,which is better than“God is moved by us”by Mr.YANG Bo jun because the new explanation seems more suitable from the social and times aspects.
