An Account of the Characteristics of Metal Casting in Nanzhao State and Dali Kingdom

从考古发现及史书记载看,南诏大理国的科学技术是十分发达的,尤其在金属冶炼方面给我们留下了丰富多彩的实物,本文从实物分析出发,指出了南诏大理国时期冶炼、铸造、雕刻制作的几个主要特点:制作规模大、工艺水平高、与佛教密切相关等。

Seen from archaeological findings and historical records, the science and technology in Nanzhao State & Dali Kingdom were rather advanced. A rich variety of material objects in smelting, as evidence, have passed down to us. This paper proceeds with an analysis of material objects and points out the chief characteristics of smelting, casting, and engraving operations in Nanzhao State & Dali Kingdom periods - a large scale, high techniques, and a close link with Buddhism.
