Fossilized Drama:Anshun's Local Opera

安顺地戏是一种民间傩戏,当地老百姓叫它"跳神",学术界称其为"地戏"。安顺地戏目前主要分布在贵州省中西部地区,东起贵阳,西至关岭,北自普定,南迄紫云。

Anshun' s Local Opera is a kind of folk drama distributed in the Anshun area of Guizhou Province.600 years ago the Ming Dynasty troops first introduced the opera to this Southwestern part of China.The performance is staged on a flat piece of land in the village.The themes,with no exception,focus on history stories.The opera stages only military life and never touches civilian life.It is always done in the singing narration of the third person. Hence its research values as fossilized drama. Masks ase always worn in performances,which are carved out of wood and painted with colours. In the past two decades,Anshun's Local Opera has visited France,Spain and Republic of Korea. Performances and exhibitions have been held in Taiwan,Hong Kong as well.This fossilized drama has in fact aroused the interest of artists and researchers world-wide.
