罗布泊在新疆塔里木盆地东部、若羌县北部,蒙古语称罗布诺尔,意为"汇入多水之湖"。面积3006平方公里,曾是我国内流区最大咸水迁移湖,70年代初彻底干涸。罗布泊地处古代丝绸之路南道要冲。

Bordering Taklimakan Desert and in the north of Ruoqiang County, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region,the Lop Nut ('Nut' means 'lake' in Mongolian) was the comm- unication hub on the ancient Silk Road.It completely dried up in 1970' s.In recent years,many explorers disappeared here for ever,which adds mystery to the place.In early November,1999.3 evening newspaper reporters spent terrible 5 days and 4 nights here to make survey of the ecoenvironment in the peripheral area around Lop Nur to unveil its true color.It was the first time for the Chinese press circles to successfully traverse across Lop Nut from south to north.
