Ngari Prefecture,Tibet which nestles among the soaring Himalaya,Kangdese,Kunlun, Kalakunlun mountains with an average elevation of above 4,500 m is named the 'Roof of the World'.The place is also called the Third Pole of the Earth on a par with the North Pole and South Pole. Ngari is also the birthplace of Bon,a primitive religion indigenous to Tibet.The Xiangxiong Kingdom which was established here brought about the preliminary civilization of the Tibetan ethnic group.After that,the Guge King- dom which was founded in today's Zanda County,Ngari played an important role in the revival of Buddhism in Tibet. Holy mountain Kangrinpoche and holy lake Mapam Yumco in Ngari are home to a great variety of flora and fauna.Ngari is a long-cherished destination for explorers, artists and travellers.
