随意展开一份中国地图,中国西部的辽阔与苍凉便跃然纸上。雪域高原、大漠孤烟、风吹草低、唐风汉乐——一切诗意的、厚重的无不与西部有着千丝万缕的联系。今天,当西部大开发的号角在中华大地吹响的时候,我们以更加清醒、更加自信的且光来审视这片曾经辉煌过的土地,才蓦然惊觉西部不应该是贫困与落后的代名词,真正意义上的西部是中国巨大财富的聚宝盆。西部地区幅员辽阔,陆地面积达660.6万平方公里。占全国面积68.8%的土地物产韦饶,自然资源丰富,蕴含了大量的煤炭、石油、天然气及其他地质矿产,对我国国民经济的可持续发展有着极其重大的战略意义。
China's west has a vast territory with land area of 5.38 million sq km, accounting for 57% of the country's total. The region has plentiful products and abundant natural resources such as coal, petroleum, natural gas, and other minerals. The coal deposits are mainly distributed in Shaanxi, Ningxia, Yunnan with a predicted reserve totalling 1,000 billion tons. Petroleum and natural gas with bountiful reserves are concentratively distributed in Xinjiang, Sicbuan, Shaanxi and Qinghai. Additionally, the western region has many other mineral resources. Especially vanadium and titanium with reserves ranking first in the world in Panzhihua City, Sichuan Province, tin with reserve of 1.2524 million tons, ranking first in China in Gejiu City, Yunnan Province. Furthermore, West China has very rich other nonferrous metal deposits as well.
