In summer, 1997, I was lucky to join the Sino-Japanese Survey Team of History and Culture in the Upper Reaches of the Yangtze River. It was the 3rd time for me to enter the Qiang people-inhabited area in the Aba Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province. We focused our survey on the Qiangfeng Village, Wenchuan County and Taoping Village, Lixian County. We tasted uniquely-flavored qingke (highland barley) wine, heavily-smoked bacon and potato meal in the Qiang peoples' home, visited diaolou (a hexagonal-shaped stone house), the symbol of the Qiangs' village, which was so impressive that one could not help feeling profuse in one' s praise and enjoyed Qiang people's song and dance performance. Sincere and honest Qiang people left an unforgettable impression on us all.
