On the Application of Professional Knowledge in Translation

熟悉专业术语 ,用专业语言而不是外行话翻译专业文章 ;在分析句子结构时 ,运用专业知识消除可能存在的歧义 ;遇到英汉两种语言表达方式不同 (如数字和倍数的表达法 )时 ,一方面借助惯用法认识语言中的“特殊性”,一方面保持敏锐的专业嗅觉 ,察觉译文中可能出现的不合逻辑现象 ;在专业范围内 ,对某些字词作合理的引申 ,使语义显豁 ,文字畅达。

Acquaintance with technical terms to make sure that translation of professional wretings is done in an expert's rather than a layman's language; Elimination of potential ambiguities by making use of professional knowledge while analyzing the sentence structure; Perception of illogicalities in translation by recognizing the linguistic peculiartities with the help of translator's knowledge of English usage when coming across differences in expressions(e.g., in numbers and multiples) between English and Chinese; extension of meanings in professional context so that the final version in the target language is not only comprehensible but fluent as well. These are the four main points expounded upon in the following paper.
