This paper tries to approach the nature and cause of some translators' taking words too literally in view of the complexity and difficulty of E C translation.The comments and analysis are made on the basis of some improperly translated sentences if “English for Graduate Students,A Self study Book',which will help readers realize how serious this translating defect is in present translation,and thereby get to know how to overcome it.The analysis in this paper may well tell us that we still have a long way to go in the improvement of E C translation quality.
