The Manjusri Monastery is one of China's best Chan Buddhist establishment. Located in the northeastern part of the Chengdu City, the Manjusri was first built about 1,300 years ago and has an area of 80 mu today. In 1983 the Manjusri was appointed a key Chinese language temple by the State Council. It is believed that the Manjusri was first started in the Daye years of the Sui Dynasty and was named the Xinxiang Temple then. With rises and falls over the following years, the temple's reconstruction was completed in 1697 and the temple was renamed the Manjusri. The Manjusri has always been the temple frequented by worshippers, attracting about 1,200,000 worshippers every year from both in and outside China. The climax of visiting to the temple is on January 1st and 15th by the Chinese calendar. Today the Manjusri has also bridged the friendly exchanges between Chinese and foreign Buddists.
