Tian Yumei, An Accomplished Painter

第一次在陈子昂故里四川射洪县看到已故名画家田雨梅先生的画,让我着实吃了一惊。先生流畅娴熟的笔墨,十分考究的构图,既鲜明又含蓄的意境,以及浓浓的诗情画意,使他的作品具有一种很高的气韵和风范。田先生的绘画,生前就得到文艺界的诸多好评。其中江南名士余咏之很有代表性。他对田先生其人其画这样称道云:“蜀中多奇士,唯君冠一军;袖底峨眉月,笔端泰岱云……”短短数语,评介十分精到、中肯。

Mr. Tian Yumei, a deceased eminent painter was born into a scholarly family in Shehong County, Sichuan Province in 1913. He took Chinese renowned painters Duan Xugu and Huang Binhong as his teachers at his young age and read almost allthe famous historical Chinese paintings. His dilligent efforts had laid a profound foundation for his painting techniques. With perseverance and consistency, he never stopped painting and created a number of excellent landscape works. His paintings, exquisite in composition, expressed in fluent strokes, full of taste and interest, characterized by the style of the traditional Chinese painting of man-of-letters have very high artistic quality and worthiness for collection.
