This thesis discusses briefly some differences in the use of unit nouns concerning animal assemblage between English and Chinese, the ways used in the English translation of Chinese animal assemblage unit nouns, and analyses several functions of English unit nouns concerning animal assemblage. It particularly points out that “partitives” in English are not actually the equivalent of “unit nouns( liangci) ” in Chinese, which clarifies many scholars' misconception having existed in China and foreign lands hitherto.
