Abstract The tautologies in the English and Chinese languages have much resemblance to each other. Their peculiar formation and rhetorical function represent a special phenomenon in both languages. This paper attempts to analysize and compare the characteristics, induce the regular patterns of the formation and explore the translation between both tautologies.
