Core yarns consist of two components, a core of continuous filament yarns and a sheath (covering yarns) of fibers. The yarns can be manufactured on any ring spinning machine fitted with a number of auxiliary units. Both short-staple and long-staple fibers can be used as the sheath material. The core and the covering material are brought together at the delivery roll pair of the drafting system. This article describes the winding and splicing of core yarns.
