摘要 Only 130 kilometers away from Beijing, Tianjin is one of the four cities in China directly governed by the central government. It covers 10,000 square meters of land and possesses a population of 10 million. A city with a long history of heavy industry, Tianjin also boasts China's biggest man-made harbor the Xingang Harbor.Tianjin has witnessed rapid economic growth ever since China opened its door to the outside world, and Tianjin women are playing an increasingly important role in every aspect of the society politics, economy and culture. Their bellwether the Tian/in Women's Federation, is the biggest women's nongovernmental organization in the city. During a recent visit to the organization, reporters from Women of China magazine interviewed some of the leaders. The following articles are the results of that trip. We hope that this will help you gain a picture of what life is like for Tianjin women. Different as their jobs and lives are, one thing is common to all of the women: they all work tirelessly to improve themselves. CHEN Muhua, Vice Chairperson of the China National People’s Congress Standing Committee and President of the All-China Women’s Federation, once had this to say about Chinese women’s situation in the high-ranking decision-making positions.
