Abstract Being a great master of Buddhism in the period of the Eastern Jin Dynasty and the Posterior Qin regime,Kumāarajvra had played a vital part in the communication and exchange of Buddhist culture in the Western Regions and Central Plains.This article gives a systematic and comprehensive account of his Mahayana Buddhist ideas,as was shown in his lectuees on Buddhism and in his large quantity of translation of Buddhist classics into Chinese,and their values as well as his influence on Buddhist culture of later ages.
