The kinetic data of methane hydrate formation in pure water were measured in a mildly agitated transparent sapphire cell. The experimental temperatures were from 273.15 to 276.15 K and pressure ranging from 4.47 to 8.47 MPa. A four step gas hydrate formation mechanism was assumed, and the reaction kinetics approach was adopted in the development of the kinetic model for methane hydrate formation. Damped nonlinear least square method was used for estimating the kinetic parameters of the proposed model. The new kinetic model has been tested on the experimental data measured in this work and those from the literature. A good agreement was found between model predictions and experimental data.
