The chemical composition and boiling range of vacuum residuum are quite different from the vacuum gas oil . Simulating calculation showed that a considerable part of vacuum residue would not vaporize at the injection zone of the riser during residue oil cat cracking. The effect of the vaporization rate of residue oil feed on the cracking reaction was investigated in a down flow tubular reactor. Experimental results showed that the effect of the vaporization rate was evident. Sampling and analysis along the riser of a commercial FCC unit for resid cracking were achieved. These interesting data figured out a unique reaction path along the riser during residue oil cat cracking. These fundamental studies showed that the reaction in liquid phase played an important role in the residue oil cat cracking.
