Research on High Efficiency Cyclone Separators and Their Optimum Design

The three dimensional turbulent flow fields and particle concentration distributions in cyclone separators with various configurations and dimensions were systematically measured and analyzed. It was found that there were three regions with abnormal particle concentration, and that particle penetration in the “short cut flow' region near the entrance of the exit tube could be divided into three parts, on which the effects of cyclone dimensions were all different. Based on numerous performance tests, a new concept of optimizing cyclone dimensions was given, in which cyclone dimensions were classified into three categories. New formulae for calculating grade efficiency and pressure drop of cyclone separators were deduced, and a new design method involving the optimization of the combination of four main parameters was developed. Newly developed PV type high efficiency cyclone separators have been successfully used to reduce catalyst loss in refineries with significant economic benefits. A series of EPVC ,PDC , PT and DTC type high efficiency cyclone tubes and a number of new multicyclone separators were also developed for extensive use in refineries.
