The definition , progress , present situation , control and prospects for the application of chaos in non - linear science are reviewed systematically and comprehensively in the paper. In addition , different views for chaos are also briefly commented. It consists of a series of conceptions , terminology and statements of specialists and scholars in this field , which would give some help to those who want to learn and study chaos.
