China is presently undergoing a drastic transition fram a tra-ditional to modern society in which large families are grad-ually disintegrating.while nuclear families are on the rise.The function of family for supporting old folks is losing its tradi-tional importance.China's population is aging rapidly.The per-centage of the elderly is on the increase and the average life ex pectancy of China s population has reached 70.8 years present-ly.However。a growing number of old peqple are being left unattended.due to some reasons.by their familes,particularly in rural areas.
