Chind s population has experienced a process from a high birth rate and high mortality rate to a low birth rate and low death rate from 1950 to 1982.The age structure un-derwent a significant change from 1964 to 1995.The percentage of the aged population increased from 6.1%in 1964 to9.4%in 1995(see Table 1).The median age of China's population in-creased from 20.2 years in 1964 to 22.9 in 1982 and 25.3 in 1990.One can see two ou tstanding characteristics in the changes of China's population:ane is a significant increase in the work-ing-age population and another is acce lerating population aging.
