四川物产丰富,素有天府之国的美誉,然而却因交通不便,多年来这个"聚宝盆"难以与外界沟通。蜀道难,是四川人民的千古浩叹。可喜的是,经四川人民数十年的辛勤开拓,到1990年,四川省公路里程已达到97234公里,是1950年的11倍。道路等级虽然不高,但却飞越了世界屋脊,遍布于巴山蜀水之间。四川省交通厅厅长刘中山在1993年初曾自豪地宣告:"我省公路建设已从‘通’的基础上转移到以‘畅’为目标的战略上来了。"至此,四川公路建设步入了现代化的新起点。
The communication undertakings has made rapid progress in Sichuan Province recently.In 1990 the road mileage in Sichuan Province amounted to 97,234 kilo- metres,11 times than that in 1950.In the Cross-Century Plan,the Golden Triangle Region will be built with two expressways Jiangyou-Leshan and Chengdu- Chongqing across the Basin so as to open up the passage of five exits to other provinces.Within the province,the high-speed road network shall be built connect- ing 16 large and medium-sized cities and 30 counties(cities).
