The stiffness of AMB (Active Magnetic Bearing) is the crux for the application of the AMBs, but excessive stiffness may affect on the stability of the AMBs system. On the basis of analyzing the effect of the nonlinearity of the electromagnetic force on the stability of the system, this paper proposes that the contradiction between stiffness and stability of the AMBs system may be resolved by applying nonlinear control theory. The stiffness of AMB in the author's experimental set is raised from 2N/μm to 20N/μm.
