ASS has passed about 15 years since its first issue. During this time, with the deepening ofthe “reform and opening” policy, gradually, sceince and technology periodicals have developedgreatly in China. The important effect of such periodicals in promoting the progress of scienceand social economy are catching more and more attention and understanding of the people in China.Under the leadership of the Chief--editor and Editorical--Board, ASS has made great contributions in recording and propagating the results of seismological research and promoting thetransformation of science and technology into production. In executing the rule of 'twice peer reviewing and once finalization of the manuscripts', the use of 'national eigal metrological units' inASS, the standardization in the edition of scientific papers, and adoption of high--tech type-setting, and setting up of the sections 'contributiors to this issue' and 'Catalogue of Earthquakeswithin and near China and all over the world', all these measures have promoted standardizationand modernization of editing and publishing of ASS, so that, ASS has become one of thefavourable academic journals loved by numerous seismologists. ASS experienced all sorts of examines in the process of comprehensive appraisal to different kinds of scientific and technologicaljournals of China in 1992,launched by the National Departments concerned.'
