The Jinan-based China Motorcycle Group in Shandong Province was founded in 1986 in a small factory with fixed assets of a few million yuan. Seven years later the group has become one of the top three enterprises in China, with RMB400 million in fixed assets and producing 30 models of motorcycles in five classes. In 1993, it manufactured 500,000motorcycles which earned RMB2 billion in sales income and returned a RMB 180 million pre-tax profit.
